Hello! l'm thrilled that you've found this website and my information. Here's just a little about my background:
After being a master's degree counselor for 5 years, I decided to return to my educational roots to earn a doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision in 1991. Little did I know how much I would LOVE being a clinical supervisor! So, in the process or learning more about counseling and therapy, I also learned how to be a supervisor. And then I became an even better therapist.
In 1998, I earned the Approved Clinical Supervisor certification from the National Board for Certified Counselors while licensed as a counselor in North Carolina. Shortly after that, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in Virginia.
I view supervision as a collaborative process, so the supervisory relationship is as important to me as my professional relationship is with clients.
Since 1999, I’ve provided LPC supervision to a wide variety of mental health counselors and I’m still learning. Being a supervisor has made me more conscious of what I’m doing as a counselor. It’s stretched and challenged me and made me open to new ways of thinking and doing the work.
As a full-time faculty member at Old Dominion University from 2005 to 2014, I taught introduction to and advanced counseling skills courses to master's level students as well as introduction to AND advanced supervision to doctoral students. In my position as clinical coordinator for practicum and internship experiences, I provided loads of supervision to master's and doctoral students. Throughout that time, I also supervised Residents in Counseling in Virginia.
After leaving academia and returning to full time private practice work, I created and started teaching the "Clinical Supervisor Toolkit", a supervisor training geared toward private practice clinicians in Virginia. It's an online, experiential training that consistently gets high marks for its resources and information as well as practical application of research.
I hope you'll contact me if you have questions about the training and join my email list. Please know I love being a resource to other professionals, so you're welcome to contact me.
I look forward to speaking to you! Dr. T PHONE me EMAIL me
